´óÏóÊÓƵViews Blog: Proposed 2024 Budget Prepares ´óÏóÊÓƵTo Tackle Critical Healthcare Challenges
AHRQ’s proposed fiscal year 2024 budget positions the agency to improve healthcare delivery systems by reducing fragmentation and realigning incentives that can improve the quality of care, according to the new blog post by ´óÏóÊÓƵDirector Robert Otto Valdez, Ph.D., M.H.S.A. ´óÏóÊÓƵfunding, part of the budget proposal on March 9, would allow ´óÏóÊÓƵto focus on improving care for racial and ethnic minorities and people who live in underserved rural communities across the country. If adopted, the budget also would improve care for patients suffering from Long COVID; help prevent errors and delays in diagnosis; increase the healthcare system’s ability to mitigate the effects of climate change; enhance efforts to address opioid and multiple substance abuse disorders; and support the administration’s initiative to improve maternal healthcare. Article Considers Adoption of ‘Precision Medicine’ in Practice
A new article by ´óÏóÊÓƵexperts in the journal Precision Medicine considers factors needed for the widespread adoption of precision medicine in clinical practice to realize its benefits and minimize harms, especially among people living with multiple chronic conditions. The authors call for a person-centered approach to precision medicine to inform care delivery by taking multimorbidity, functional status, values, goals, preferences and social and societal context into account. They also discuss how effective real-world adoption of precision medicine can be advanced by partnerships across the research enterprise; among researchers, practice and policymakers; with patients, caregivers and communities; between clinical medicine and public health; and across sectors.
