New Data Resource Provides Insights on Factors Related to Falls

A new Data Spotlight from ������’s Network of Patient Safety Databases (NPSD) provides data on the most common interventions in place among patients who experienced a fall. It also highlights that strikingly similar falls interventions are used for patients with different demographics or risks. Falls are one of the most frequently reported patient safety events in the NPSD, second only to medication or other substance events. Healthcare organizations can use data from the resource to inform patient safety strategies based on increased understanding of factors most commonly associated with falls. Data for the analysis includes reports on patient safety concerns submitted from 2009 through 2021. The analysis was conducted through the use of Frequent Pattern Mining, a data mining approach that offers additional insights compared with traditional summary statistical methods. ������ƵTopic Brief Supports Primary Care Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder

The , which aims to promote and support the integration of behavioral health into primary and ambulatory care settings, has released a new to help primary care clinicians deliver low-threshold treatment for patients with opioid use disorder (OUD). Low-threshold treatment emphasizes removing the barriers common to conventional OUD treatment and prioritizes “medication first” through prescribing buprenorphine. The topic brief notes that caring for patients with OUD is a natural fit for primary care and its fundamental strengths: respect for the patient, long-term clinical relationships, nonstigmatizing support, a degree of comfort with uncertainty and a focus on whole-person care.

Registration is open for a webinar on Nov. 6 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. ET to showcase how five grantees from ������’s EvidenceNOW: Managing Urinary Incontinence initiative are developing tools and strategies to help primary care practices implement effective nonsurgical treatments for urinary incontinence in women. About 30 percent of older women in the United States report moderate to severe urinary incontinence, which can increase depression and work disability. Many women, however, remain undiagnosed and untreated. Webinar presenters will highlight resources and methods that grantees have developed to help improve urinary incontinence care.
